A Plebe's Life was tough.  Alan weighed only 145 pounds. This qualified him for the 150 lb. football team, but he was cut on the first day by Coach Eric Tipton.

Life Magazine and West Point have had a close relationship through the years. Bob Kellman, who was in my New Cadet Squad has been searching E-Bay and collecting the issues. This photo is from 1936.  My Class's "Beast Barracks" was featured in a large Life Magazine article with many pictures although we didn't make the cover. Oscar was so very proud and I have the issue that he saved. It was forever in the hallway on that bookcase between the boys' room and the bathroom upstairs. He saved other magazine articles (Time and Newsweek) about our class as well. When I showed the latter recently to our class scribe, he was amazed for he hadn't known they existed!   Return to "Sollohub"
