Oscar
Lubke provided inspiration and opportunity to the youth of Farmington
by devoting himself to projects and activities which encouraged their
physical education, sportsmanship, and social fitness so as to make
their lives, and the lives with whom they would come in contact, richer
and more fulfilling. His reward was always, and only, the thanks and
admiration of the community he served.

Having
departed Farmington as a renowned coach in three sports, Oscar Lubke
returned to Farmington in 1945 as a businessman. His only year at Hastings
High School had left him poor as usual with no pay for coaching and
three school age children in his family with Genevieve. Even more seriously
for him, he was depressed by his inability to motivate his teams, the
boys of which in that year, were sitting on the edge of going to war
following their graduation. Faced with financial reality, Oscar looked
for opportunities for a livelihood in the business sector. The shortage
of housing was a primary factor during his search as the boys of the
draft became the men of the war and were returning from combat to start
families of their own. Returning to Farmington and moving into the house
where he had once lived as a tenant and where his bride had grown up
solved Oscar's dilemma.
