March 23, 2005 Rugby - Feely scores a try as Air Force defeats #2 Army, 36 - 19 Dear Editor: I covered the Air Force vs. Army rugby match for the Farmington Independent
and will be sending you a feature story with pictures. Since I had never
attended a rugby match before this March 19th event, I spent most of
my time roaming the sidelines. I followed the linesman on the far side of the field for a while and asked questions about the game and retrieved several errant balls. As an Army alumni, I was wearing Army jacket and cap and tried to rally the Army fans by leading them in song. They neither joined in singing nor rallied. I did manage to muster the Army B squad before their game following the A teams and led them in the Army song, "Sons of Slum and Gravy". It should be noted that the Air Force Zoomies left Colorado Springs on Wednesday afternoon by van, arriving Friday afternoon before Saturday's match. The Army team had been in California for several days and were well rested. The Air Force will be returning to Stanford in April for a major tournament with four teams. John said his parents will be coming to the event. (Editor's note -- Air Force lost in the round of 16 and did not make the final four) Alan Lubke |
