| The artist of "Portrait de Nessim Bey: Campagne d'Asie" is Antoine Jean Etienne (Tony) Faivre. He was French and lived from 1830-1905. The painting is dated 1855 and is oil on canvas. It was sold by Sotheby's in NY on May 22, 1986, and is described as an "Important 19th Century painting." It was probably purchased at that time by Arthur I. Appleton, who built and opened the Appleton Museum in Ocala in 1987. His vast collection was the basis of the museum collection. | |
