Oscar
was the bottom man on the acrobat team and I would do handstands
and literally bounce on his knee.
I can still feel his whiskers rubbing my
cheek as he read the comic strips from the Sunday paper. I
think that was where I developed my visual learning inclination. I
learned about life and humor as Oscar was animated in his reading
and telling more than he read about Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie,
Little Abner (he was an expert of the Abner family tree), Prince Valiant,
Skeezix, Smilin' Jack, Joe Palooka w/Humphrey Pennyworth, Popey w/Wimpy,
the Katzenjammer Kids, Mutt and Jeff, and Terry and the Pirates.
More on the Sunday paper -- Oscar was determined
to win the contest where clues suggested an answer with several possible
word solutions, each with the same number of letters. Genevieve faithfully
did the crossword puzzle and Oscar faithfully assisted.
