USMA Class of 1961
"Second to None"
November 8, 2001
|
Class Committee Vice President Treasurer Secretary Historian Scribe |
Dear Al: More than 600 classmates, spouses, widows, and guests made our 40th Reunion special occasion that will be remembered for many years to come. The theme of our reunion "Renewal, Rededication, and Remembrance" was highlighted on our :Black, Gold, Gray Day," Friday, October 5th. We began by recognizing our deceased classmates in a moving memorial service that filled the Cadet Chapel. We walked down through Central Area and dedicated our Class gift to West Point, "Reconciliation Plaza," across from Grant Hall. Ron Hannon made class gift dedication remarks; LTG Lennox, USMA Superintendent, accepted the gift; and Pat Hoy gave a thought provoking talk entitled, "Reverberations." Special guest included Claire Telecki and U. S. Grant Dietz, the great-great granddaughter and great-great grandson of Ulysses S. Grant, and Robert E. Lee IV, great grandson of Robert E. Lee. The "Black, Gold, Gray" dinner in Washington Hall completed the day with a surprise appearance with rousing fanfares from the Hellcats and concluded with a performance by the Cadet Glee Club. You can take a virtual tour of our Class gift by going to http://www.virtualwestpoint.org/channel_tour.htm and clicking on "Class of 1961 Reconciliation Plaza." You can read Pat Hoy's remarks by going to our Class web site, http://www.aogusma.org/Class/1961/and clicking on the link. Earlier in the day at our Class meeting, Ron Hannon and Gene LaBorne stepped down from the Class Committee after more than 40 years of service. Glen Adams and I were elected to fill the two positions. Since you were not able to join the class, we wanted you to have a copy of our "Black, Gold, Gray Day" program. We're sorry you couldn't make it and hope you join us at our 45th Reunion. We are also planning a mini-reunion in January 2003 - a one week cruise in the Caribbean. Stay tuned.
